

Vera Morais
Vera Morais is a Portuguese singer, improviser and composer based in Amsterdam and Porto. Her work explores the intersection between composition and improvisation, with a focus on vocal expression. She collaborates with diverse artists and performs regularly with saxophonist Hristo Goleminov, ensemble Novelo Vago, and a sextet created for the Porta-Jazz Festival 2024. She leads the vocal and flute ensemble EUPNEA and co-created the interdisciplinary projects LIÇO and “Galatea.” In 2024, she developed “Doomscrolling” with drummer Zé Stark. She conducts the Queer Choir Amsterdam and co-founded the collective Orbits. Vera is also co-curator of Improbellissimo and studied in Porto and Amsterdam. In 2024, she received the “Emerging Artist of the Year” award from RTP/Festa do Jazz.
